HERE ARE SOME REASONS WHY NOT TO GET A GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET A GERMAN SHEPHERD PLEASE CONSIDER THESE FACTS:
ALL THE REASON NOT TO GET A GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG
1. GSD’s shed. If you are allergic to pet hair, if you are so fastidious that you don’t want dust bunnies on your floors or if you are concerned with the neatness of your house, your clothes or your guests clothes then DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
2. GSD’S are under foot. If you have balance issues, if you tend to trip over things in your way, or if you don’t want companionship in the toilet, kitchen and in bed then DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
3. GSD’S Eat a lot and need quality food. If you are unwilling to purchase the best and most suitable food for your dog you are risking his health and well being, therefore DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
4. GSD’S Cost a reasonable amount of money to own. This amount includes annual medical care, heart worm and flea prevention, insurance, possible damage to your home or property, a fence for your yard and quality food and supplements, not to mention lots of poop to clean up… if these things are scary to you then DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
5. GSD’S can be protective if not trained properly. If you are unwilling or don’t have the time to train and spend time with your dog then absolutely DON’T GER A SHEPHERD
6. GSD’S require participation in the family. If you intend to have your dog live outside the home, besides being an ass and not deserving a GSD, you should reconsider and NOT GET A SHEPHERD as they are family members and have strong family feelings and ties and require the same amount of love and attention as a child. If you can’t give the dog that, WHY GET ONE… JUST DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
7. GSD’S are playful and need exercise in order to live a quality life but in order to lead a healthy life they need stimulation and exercise on a daily basis. If you do not have time to exercise and play with your dog, DON’T GET A SHEPHERD
It thoroughly pisses me off when people tell me all of the reasons why they need to relinquish their pet GSD. At times, of course there are lots of valid compelling reasons, but the ones I hear frequently are so bazaar and so shallow that it makes sick to listen to them. These are not temporary pets. If you want one you need to make a life commitment to it. If you are of the age where you may not outlive your pet, then make a provision in your will to have someone you trust or a relative take the dog if you pass away. If you rent then DON’T GET A SHEPHERD because if you have to move finding a place to rent that will take a GSD is quite difficult and then you may have to relinquish your best friend.
The bottom line here is that a dog, especially a GSD is not a temporary play thing, nor a simple possession that can be discarded or ignored. It is a family member with feelings and love to give and also in need of love. You dog regardless of breed is a lifetime commitment.
