FORD HAS A NEW HOME AND FAMILY
HE IS A SPECIAL NEEDS DOG TRIPOD FORD was first shown to us today 11/11/16 by a local rescue group. They took him from Miami Dade and save his life. He is a 1.5 year old red and black, spectacularly handsome male GSD. he is neutered and chipped, HW Neg and has all shots. He does however only have 3 legs. His fourth leg was deformed at birth and is scheduled to be removed in the next few weeks. The rescue who has him has raised funding to have the surgery done. We have already contacted a cart company o provide him with a cart. HE DOES NO NEED THE CART NOW but he will in years to come. His leg basically is more of a hindrance than a help as it does screw up his balance when he poops so removing it seems the best option. He may be suited for a prosthetic leg but none of that has been determined yet. His surgery will be done shortly but until that time he is available for adoption. Funding for the leg surgery has been donated but anyone getting him must bring him to the surgery on the appointed date and time.
Ford is a truly nimble dog. He runs and plats like anyone else. he is extremely people friendly and likes the boat, playing ball. He readily relinquishes it but does need a person with an alpha presence because as a puppy he could potentially be headstrong. He is 1.5 years old and weighs about 75 pounds. He will grow more and will weigh 85 pounds after he is 2.5 years old. He was neutered a short time ago in Miami.
Today I had the opportunity to spend 4 hours with him and his two fosters. He was 95% perfect. He met 8 other GSD's and he was a perfect gentleman. he was surprised by a small dog and did react but nothing more than any of my dogs would have if surprised by a small dog. He is a but weary about his leg and having it sniffed but all 8 dogs did sniff him and he permitted each to do whatever they wanted to. he was kissing everyone and every dog he mat. He was lived with cats and was totally fine with the 15 kittens he saw today at the adoption event.
I can say that he would make a fabulous pet for any household. He seems to like kids and was petted by a bunch with no reaction but kisses. He is a very strong dog and does need training but he is house broken, not destructive, crate trained (BUT DOES NOT NEED ONE) AND OBEDIENT. He readily seeks out attention from everyone he meets and bonds quickly. We do know he alerts well when the doorbell rings but is quickly chilled when people enter or leave. He is a young alert and inquisitive dog who is well adjusted, comfortable in his own skin and has no clue that he is missing a limb.
If you think FORD would be a great dog for your family please contact me so you can meet him on Saturday or Sunday 11/12 or 11/13 2016 at Petsmart on Cochran in Port Charlotte.
