ARCHIE HAS A NEW FAMILY TO CALL HIS OWN
Archie came to us today, 11/9, the day before our vacation, from Lee County. He was to be put down next week and we chose to take him rather than allow that to happen to this sweet timid dog. Archie is almost 80 pounds of fluff. He is a long hair black and tan male in tact HSD. He was neutered Monday. He is HW POSITIVE and will require treatment which will be provided to the adopter at no cost through Lee County DAS.
Archie was a street stray. No one claimed him, which is best for him as he is a mess. His fur is matted and knotted, his nails are hideously long and he is deeply depressed. He is a sweet dog but has to be coaxed to respond to people. Now that I have worked with him for a few hours he has bonded to me like GLUE. He got groomed today by me and bathed and brushed. Al his snarls are gone and he is one happy boy. We do know he is housebroken as he has never peed or pooped in his kennel in a week. Once he is petted he is SUPER affectionate. He was probably abused but never hit as he is not hand shy. He has now been tested with other dogs and seems to be OK when he walks by them. He drove in the truck with me today with another dog and there was no reaction. He is a sweetheart. He prances when he walks now. He is a bit scared in the shelter as he was definitely a house dog. He probably was housebroken which we now know is true, at one time as he waits to poop outside.
The vet has a note that the dog has Bilateral perianal fistula which you will have to follow up with your vet about.
He was moved to our N Ft Myers kennel on Monday 11/9 where he recovered from his surgery and is doing quite well. Now that he is cleaned up he IS exquisite looking. This shy big boy will be a fantastic pet once he is safe and secure in a home, until then he seems depressed. Archie is about 6 years old and in good shape considering his hard life. His fur was dry and matted but now is shinny and clean after his grooming and some TLC. If Archie fits your dream dog, please let me know.
