WINTER NEEDS A NEW FAMILY

THE FAMILY WAS SUPPOSED TO PUT HER IN A SOCIALIZED TRAINING CLASS SO SHE WOULD BE MORE DOG FRIENDLY BUT AS WE HAVE NOT HEAR BACK WE A RE REMOVING HER FROM OUR LISTING. Winter is a sweet female white GSD. She is being surrendered because of a death in the family and the survivors inability to care for her. She is spayed and about 2.5 years old.
We observed her this morning and we have some issues with her temperament around other dogs. She is a sweet girl but somewhat fearful at first then warms up to you. She was really never socialized correctly and never trained at all. She knows basic things but is skiddish when faced with new things or new situations. She does balk at sudden loud noises and was definately dog reactive. It was for this reason we declined to take her for now. What she needs is an owner family willing to work with her to get her socialized training. We asked the owner to take her to school and in the mean time we will keep her on the site. Anyone who adopts her must also pursue the socialized training school because she definitely needs this to be consistently reinforced. The owner wrote:

A little about Winter

Winter is 2½ year old female white German Shepherd. She does not have any breeding papers and has been spade. She weight is about 60lbs and she is fully grown. We believe she is HW Negative, but we have no proof of that as of 1/24/15.

Winter loves to play, fetch is her favorite game but will also play tug of war. Winter seems to need to have something to do all the time. As a female she likes to communicate. If she hears another dog bark no matter how faint she will bark back. She will communicate more at night or when it is dark. Winter loves to be outside even in the wind and rain. She will often entertain herself… throw a ball in the air run around a bush, around the yard and come back and get the ball and do it again. I can be fun to watch. She is leash trained and yet must go into an active basic course if adopted from us.
This dog has always been loved and in a home. She is housebroken and not destructive, crate trained and good with people and kids. She is untested with cats but we believe NO CATS. If you want to see her please call us since an appointment must be made with the owner. 941 575 0243
