SHADOW NEEDS A NEW HOME AND FAMILY Shadow was first adopted out by us a few years ago. The person who got her did not socialize her as he promised to do and then gave her away to another owner without our knowledge or permission. She wound up luckily in a good home with some nice folks who just were unable to change her behavior. She is good at home and yet has been somewhat unpredictable with other dogs outside. She has, at times, been exceptional and yet at other times she wants to bark at everyone.
We evaluated her today and found her to be OK. We truly believe that with some formal training and supporting corrections for bad behavior, that she will quickly turn around. She needs a demonstrative and assertive owner who can correct her when she begins to get aggressive but one who can see her super soft side at home. She is a total sweetheart in the house and no destructive, obedient, house broken, alerts well, protective and yet good with people all of the time. She is fine with kids but we feel that she should be an only dog and with adults who have the time to work with her. She is about 3 years old with lots of energy. She knows all of her commands and she is crate trained and obedient. She would probably be best with no other dogs in the home or, if there were a dog, that dog be her size and submissive. We DO NOT recommend small dogs or cats be housed with her because of her prey drive.
This is a good dog who has not been corrected properly for being aggressive and therefore has gotten use to being 'in charge' in the street. At home she protects well and is totally controllable. She is otherwise a good dog that need behavioral training to turn her around. She is heart worm negative, has a chip and all shots and has been well cared for. She does not like to swim but does enjoy walking and being with her owners. We know this dog is going to be a great girl if she goes to the right home.
If you think you are a strong leader and willing to put the work in with Shadow, you will be rewarded beyond measure in having a life long companion who would move heaven and earth for you.
