MAGGIE MAY HAS FOUND A NEW HOME. SHE IS BEING FOSTERED BEFORE THE ADOPTION IS MADE FINAL. I first met Ms. Luckly Dog at the Sarasota shelter on Wed 10/17. She had been recovered as a stray and unclaimed. She so reminded me of Rudy, our small male, who was also found on the streets. Lucky is a smaller female weighing in at about 55#'s. She is primarily black but with some brown and tan markings. She has an expressive face and totally soft and engaging eyes. She is a bit shy at first but does seek you out and likes to be close. She taks treats softly and gently. She is not at all mouthy.
I will tell you that she did not like her bath. I always give them a bath to get them clean before going into our home and to check for fleas and ticks. She wanted no part of the hose or water but did finally get bathed by using the cup rather than the hose to rinse her.
Lucky will be spade tomorrow and will return to our home on Friday morning and ready for adoption.
She seems cat friendly and like dogs. She is totally non-reactive with either species. She makes herself at home in the office or dog area and is not a barker or pacer.
We do know she is HW negative, has all shots and is chipped (by us) and about 1 year old, give or take. Her teeth and ears are good and she has a great natural gate when she runs. She has not played ball or anything as yet. In my evaluation she would be suited for most any family and can be in a home with other animals. She seems fine but has not been tested with small kids.
She has had some very limited training and dd respond to come and sit quickly. I do believe that she was an in home dog as she did not 'go' in her kennel at the shelter until walked. She does pull on the leash and needs a prong collar at this juncture.
If your family adopts her we will require you take at least 2 courses at the Peace River Dog Fanciers club or at a socializatiuon training center of your choice if you live out of the Punta Gorda Charlotte county area.
