We received Max and Maxine today 9/12/12. We renamed her Precious for obvious reasons. These two beautiful black and tan GSD's are tremendous dogs. They were found in the Ft Myers area as strays but we are certain that they lived in a loving home and we want to find a like but secure home for them to transition into.

News flash max went home to his new parents this evening and Precious has now gone to her new home as well.

Max and Maxine appear to be brother and sister. They are extremely playful and gentle. They do come when called, love their bath and let us do their ears without any fuss.  We are certain that they are about 1 year old and have had a little training. They do appear to be house broken, but we will know that soon enough. They did not poop in their crates at the shelter indicating that they are accustomed to being walked outside.  These dogs are both heartworm negative. They have had all shots. Maxine will be spade on 9/14.  Max, well, he had the deed done already, so he's primed and raring to go home.

Max is about 75#'s and has the blue lead on in the photos below. Maxine has orange. Maxine is about 60#'s. Both are black and tan GSD's and both have great fur. They have not been abused in any way and they both have black saddles.  Both dogs have totally bonded to one another and we do suggest that they go to different homes.  As brother and sister, they have formed their own pack and training (with both in the same home) will be a diffficult task. Max, in the blue lead, has flopped ears. They do stand up but not on a regular basis.  Just because his ears flop does not make him any more or less desirable.  Temperament in both of these dogs is tremendous and both will make fantastic family pets.  We never look at cosmetics but rather personalities and temperament in choosing adoptable dogs.

Max is a calm dog as is his sister.  They both do jump when they meet you but that can be quickly unlearned.  They were exposed to 10 or more dogs with me today and did not react negatively to any.  They both are calm and secure. Neither tucks their tails and neither is hand shy or reactive in any way.  Both dogs are the perfect weight and both have good skin and coat.  Max and Maxine are now at our home and we welcome any inquires on them.

Side Note:  When we got both dogs here we immediately saw them as unbelievable in all aspects. They were both calm, gentle and affectionate. We had an immediate family for Max and he went in a few hours after arriving here, but there was somethng about Precious, then Maxine, that told me to keep her.  Precious was a seamless fit into our pack. She turned out to be every bit as good as I thought she would be.  I loved teaching her to swim.  Diane and I gave real consideration in keeping her, but after 10 days of really getting attached we decided that she should have the chance on 100% attention rarther that being one of 8 here with us.  Not that living here isn't dog heaven, with swimming, great chow, places to run and brothers and sisters to play with all day... but we knew that we already had a firm pack and disrupting the dynamics was not the best of ideas. There are some dogs that just win my heart and Precious was indeed one of them. I am happy to report that I could not have chosen a better family to have her go home to. I will truly miss her as will Diane, but our job is clearly to put great dogs in great homes and we fulfilled that mission again for the 206th time with Precious.
