RATTLE SNAKES CAN KILL YOUR DOG

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN RUNNING YOUR DOG IN FIELDS

This letter came in to us from the dock dog divers club and I thought it was worth passing on to our readers:

I just received this e-mail from a friend, this happened in Lee County FL. Please read and be on the watch for snakes, it could save a life. Our thoughts go out to this family.

Wanted to warn you all.  A friend from Obedience Club lost her dog to a rattler.  Please be careful.

Jeanette

Subject: Striper died last night of an eastern diamond back rattler snakebite

Date: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 9:37 AM

My heart is broken. He was bitten at the North Cape Flats preserve on Thursday in the late afternoon.  He received two vials of anti-venom and a blood transfusion, but it was too big of a snake and he probably took two strikes.  He fought for his life.  I was with him at the end and he knew I was there.  He could see me out of the one eye he had left.  The snake bit him on the face.

I did not know this was snake breeding season and the snakes are more active than normal.  I wanted everyone to know because many dog club members track in that area.

He was the best companion a person could ever hope for, loyal, smart, obedient and plenty of personality.  He gave me a reason to get up everyday when I was going through chemo.  I knew I had to walk the dog.  I calculated out our miles during his lifetime and it was over 6500 miles that we walked together.
